A Capitol Idea

Did you know that Moses can be found inside the US Capitol building?

Last summer, our congressman arranged for some of us to have a private tour of the Capitol building in Washington D.C. We were granted the opportunity to walk down on the floor of the large hall where the House of Representatives meets. We were sitting just a few feet from where the President gives his annual State of the Union address.

As we sat in the front row, near where the Speaker of the House typically sits, we looked around. We saw carvings of various people’s faces all around the room. All but one was looking sideways. However, in the middle of the room, one face was looking straight ahead—right at the place where the Speaker of the House sits...and where the President gives his annual address. It was Moses.

When these sculptures were made, it was decided that Moses would be the only face to look straight ahead. You see, it wasn’t that many years ago that he was seen as the law-giver. And here he was—presiding, if you will—in front of those who make America’s laws today!

How ironic that Moses is allowed in Congress, but he and the Ten Commandments are not permitted in America’s courtrooms and public schools! Sadly, America is losing its biblical foundation.
