Culture Watch:  Striptease Aerobics

The daily newspaper is a simple way to find out more about cultural trends in your community. In The Indianapolis Star of February 28th there was an eye-popping article about the fitness trend of “Striptease Aerobics.”

Apparently, some in the fitness world have tried to liven up workouts by combining exercise with the exotic dances and movements of strippers. While some have embraced this movement, many fitness centers are opposed to the sexual nature of these classes. They should be.

Certainly, it is the duty of every husband and wife to “render the affection” due (1 Corinthians 7:3). Yet, at the same time women are to be “discreet” and “chaste” so “the word of God may not be blasphemed.” Men are to be examples of “integrity, reverence” and “sober-mindedness” so that “one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you” (Titus 2:3-8).

Many of the world can see the indiscreet, irreverent, lewd and indecent behavior of women striving to be like strippers. This is not just bad judgment, it will put you in hell (Galatians 5:19-21). In addition, it will turn others from Christ when they see Christians behave like immoral women of the night. There is a reason strip clubs have dark windows and age restrictions. The actions within are secretive, shameful, and sinful. The Christian should have no part of it.
