Culture Watch:  Spanking Clubs

The city of Kokomo has been in an uproar lately over a new business establishment that wants to come to town. It’s a spanking club. We are not talking about spanking children either.

This is an “adult” club, similar to a strip club, except lust is provoked in a different way than dancing and removing one’s clothes. In this instance, the sexual desires of both men and women would be aroused through a legal form of sadomasochism.

If this business comes to town, it would be the first of its kind in the state of Indiana. That is not intended to be a compliment to “the city of firsts.”

Among the “works of the flesh” in Galatians 5:19-21 are, “adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness…” These words are all broad references to a variety of sexual sins—certainly including sadomasochism (the sexual pleasure of physically hurting others or being hurt). Committing these sins will send us to hell (Galatians 5:21).

Christians should “make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts” (Romans 13:14). In addition, we should stand ready to speak out against these dens of iniquity.

Ephesians 5:11 says, “...have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.”

Amen.
