Findings in a recent Kaiser Family Foundation study
released November 9, 2005 were sad, but not surprising. Apparently,
television scenes featuring kissing, fondling and talk about sex have
nearly doubled on television since 1998.
In fact, nearly 70% of the top 20 watched shows by teens include sex
talk and depictions of sexual behavior. The immorality is not brief
either. In the average teen’s hour of television watching, they are
likely to see over 6 sex scenes per hour.
Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 6:18, “Flee sexual immorality.” The
word “flee” does not encourage us to face sexual temptation, but have
our backs to it. Are we “fleeing” by watching and supporting these
programs?
These statistics should be alarming. The more one is around sin, the
easier it is to become comfortable with sin. Our consciences can become
“seared” and our hearts can be “hardened” (1 Timothy 4:2;
Acts 28:27).
Evil communication will corrupt our good morals and it will only get
easier and worse (1 Corinthians 15:33; 1 Timothy 3:1).
Make your mind up to do something good with your time—turn off your
television set.
