As the sexual boldness of young people is growing so
is the naiveté of many parents. A common trend among young people and
permissive parents today is the co-ed sleepover.
A 2002 Teen People survey found that out of 1,000 teens close to 83%
either had or knew someone who had “fooled around” at a co-ed sleepover.
Some parents may have forgotten the raging hormones of adolescence, but
whether it involves teenagers or adults, co-ed sleepovers can provide a
dangerous opportunity (even to our dear little angel children) to
fulfill sensual lusts.
Romans 13:13,14 says, “...walk properly, as in the day, not in
revelry...not in lewdness and lust...But put on the Lord Jesus Christ,
and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.”
Notice that “walking properly” is compared to how we act “in
the day.” Co-ed sleepovers (in the cover of night) lend sexual
opportunities to people who would not make the same choices in broad
daylight.
In addition, Paul teaches not to provide (“make no provision”) an
opportunity. Whether you think you or your kids will act on the lust is
not the issue. Do not take the risk. Be their parent, not their pal!
