One of the most popular toys this holiday season was
a set of dolls called "Bratz." These dolls have become so popular, that
the "Bratz" started their own TV show, a cartoon, last year.
The Bratz dolls might be described as "Barbie Gone Wild." Their name
describes their appearance quite well. Their cartoon characters are
interested in fashion, social issues, clubs, dance moves, and music
among other shallow things.
According to the American Heritage Dictionary a "brat" is "a child,
especially a spoiled, or ill-mannered one." Other dictionaries use the
term, "unruly" to describe a "brat."
Whether it be a real person or a cartoon character, life does imitate
art (1 Corinthians 15:33). This should awaken those Christian parents
who are tempted to buy their kids Bratz dolls and let them watch the TV
show.
These characters are snobby, self-interested, unruly, immodestly dressed
and occasionally downright rude. These traits are opposite to those
Christians should desire in raising their children "in the Lord"
(Ephesians 6:1-4).
Even cartoons and dolls can influence our children for both good and
evil. If your kid plays with Bratz do not be surprised if they start
acting like one, too!
